Special Events!

NIGHTS AT THE MOVIES IN AUGUST:
Join us for two interesting movies to be shown in the Chapel at 6:30 P.M.

August 12: Il Postino (The Postman): It’s an Academy ward winning romantic comedy about love and poetry---about finding the right words to win hearts.

August 26: Persepolis: Iran is certainly in the news, but how little we really know and understand! This movie could give us some insight. The Rev. Allie Perry, who recently returned from a trip to Iran, will be with us to add her comments. It may also interest you to know that Heidi Lang and her family some years back traveled to Iran and had an incredible experience. Driving around on their own, they met warm and curious people, open to Americans---nothing like the fanatical leadership portrayed on the news.

THE FAITH FORUM
Join us on Tuesdays at 10 A.M. in the Parish House Library.

On Tuesdays at 10 A.M. in the Parish House library, we meet to read and discuss timely books. We have just finished Terror in the Mind of God, a book about the rise of religious violence, and will now read something more encouraging and uplifting: Christianity for the Rest of Us by Diana Butler Ross. The book concerns the mainline Protestant tradition and how in some churches it is being renewed. We will begin discussing the book on July 15th. Join us! Copies of the book will be in the office.

We are Called the Puritan Church: What Do You Know about Puritans?
In the fall a reading group is forming to study our church history and our religious heritage. We will plan to meet each Sunday after the service until noon. During the fall, Kaz Bem, our new intern, will lead us in the reading of Nathaniel Philbrick’s Mayflower. Call Linda at the office (787-0121) if you would like a copy, and let Dan Wade (daniel.wade@yale.edu) know that you are interested. We will plan to begin on September 14th. Of course, we will interrupt the class for potlucks, sermon talk-backs, etc. If you are adverse to reading, the New Haven Public Library has a digitized version that you listen to like an Ipod! Please join us!
