Center Church and the New Haven Green

Our work for the church doesn't stop at the doors

The members of Center Church take part in a wide variety of community outreach programs. Below is a sampling of some of the programs we are involved in.

If you can help us to accomplish our goals in the community, please join us in our efforts, or visit our Donate page to contribute. Thank you!

Columbus House

Center Church initiated its meal serving service for Columbus House, a shelter for the homeless, in November of 1982. On the third Saturday of each month, Center Church teams prepare nutritious meals for the needy of New Haven to enjoy.

Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen

Using the Parish House basement kitchen, the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen ("DESK") program prepares nighttime meals for the needy, seven nights a week on a year round basis. DESK also uses a basement storage area as a main supply source from which they distribute groceries on Wednesdays for those in need. Meals are served on Thursday evenings in the basement dining room and whenever other DESK sites are unavailable.

The Baby's Closet

In cooperation with the Hill Health Center, the Baby's Closet mission provides funding whereby pregnant women who faithfully attend pre-natal classes earn points. Those accrued points allow the women to receive certificates to purchase needed items at Toys R Us. Points are also earned by attending post-natal classes at the Hill Health Center.

Labels for Education

Labels for Education are collected and mailed to Elon Homes for Children. Located in North Carolina, they provide missionary outreach to impoverished children.

Can Tabs

Soda can tabs are collected and delivered to Ronald McDonald House, which seeks to improve the health and well-being of children.

Christian Community Action & AIDS Interfaith Network

During the Christmas season, toys, books, mittens, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. are collected and delivered to Christian Community Action Agency and Aids Interfaith Network. These two organizations then distribute the items to children who are in need.
