Sunday worship is held at 10 A.M. throughout the year in the beautiful Meeting House, which is the center church on New Haven’s historic Green.
Our worship service is traditional, but not old-fashioned.
We are an Open and Affirming Christian Church. We welcome you to join us. Come visit, and discover whether Center Church might be your spiritual home.
Special Worship Services
In addition to our regular Sunday worship services, Center Church (official name, First Church of Christ in New Haven) celebrates special Sunday services throughout the year, including Welcoming Sunday in September; Lessons and Carols in December; Old Colony Sunday in May; and Children’s Sunday in June. During Holy Week, we hold a Maundy Thursday service; and on Christmas Eve we have a special candlelight service.
Children are an important part of Center Church. Church School is Sunday mornings at 10 A.M. at the Parish House. The Sunday School curriculum is based on the Bible and is taught by a full-time Sunday School Teacher.Pre-confirmation and Confirmation classes are available for older children.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND SERVICE
At Center Church we truly believe that our church work does not stop at our church doors!
The members of Center Church take part in a wide variety of community service projects and programs. Please visit us to learn more about our many community service opportunities.
We are especially concerned about hunger in our community. This is why Center Church initiated a meal serving service for Columbus House in November 1982. Each third Sunday, in keeping with tradition, Center Church members and friends prepare and serve a meal for the needy who come to Columbus House.
During our weekly Sunday Service, Center Church collects gifts of food and money for Christian Community Action; and during the Christmas Season we supplement our contributions with collections of toys, books, mittens, hats and gloves.
Center Church also proudly supports the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen, “D.E.S.K,” which is housed in our Parish House basement. Though independently run, Center Church actively supports it.
In order to address other pressing needs in our community and in our nation Center Church provides support for “The Baby Closet,” which provides funding for pregnant women who agree to attend pre- and post- natal classes at Hill Health Center.
Center Church also supports for two worthy charities. We collect Labels for Education for Elon Homes for Children, located in North Carolina, which provides missionary outreach to impoverished children; and soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House, to help seriously ill children and their families.
